Low Season
△These photographs were captured on the Danish island of Bornholm during the winters of 2020–2021, where I reside. The series consists of staged portraits of friends and neighbors, still images of nature, and details from towns across the island. The project takes a documentary point of departure, portraying life on Bornholm during a specific moment in time outside the high season, when the island slows and a quieter atmosphere prevails. At the same time, the images form a visual study of artificial light: how light and shadow shape people and landscapes, and the moods they evoke. The interplay between staged settings and constructed lighting lends the photographs a cinematic quality, reminiscent of film stills, with subtle references to Twin Peaks, a series from the 1990s that deeply influenced my imagination of life in rural communities. The narrative remains intentionally open, inviting viewers to use the images as a projection surface for their own memories and associations. Published by Another Place Press in February 2022, with an essay by Danish writer Dennis Gade Kofod.
